How Can I Help my Tribe, the Cherokee Nation?
How can I be of service and help the Cherokee Nation?
The specific answer is highly personalized to each individual, but generally, my answer is as follows:
Be great, being you, wherever you are: In other words, be a light and a shining example of Cherokee values wherever you are. Use your gifts, talents, and abilities to give back to Indian Country as a whole, to fellow Cherokees or other Natives. Examples include, nonprofit service, boards, entrepreneurship, and elected office.
Engage and learn more about “what really goes on” in Cherokee Nation – do this by visiting here, by engaging in the political conversations, and by registering yourself and your family to vote.
Apply for jobs: The Nation is always employing with great benefits, and some opportunities are in locations outside of the reservation.
I’ve been on the inside, and I’ve been on the outside of Cherokee Nation leadership. Regardless of if I’m working for or with the Nation, I’ll always be of service and helping my Nation move forward through my larger efforts. Hopefully this helps you make an impact in your own way, too. 😊
