Resources for Enrichment

Closing out this year, I’m reflecting on a lot. I’ve had a lot of wins. But I’ve had my share of losses this year that made me feel like this.
Doing an inventory of all the wins, losses, lessons, and dreams still in focus gives me perspective on how I will approach next year. For me, living life is about growing, experiencing, and working on myself.
What is your year-end practice? How do you reflect and reset?
On The Road
SMU Homecoming
One of the best decisions I ever made in life was going to SMU (Southern Methodist University) in Dallas, Texas. It was there I made lifelong friends and continued my financial education.
November started off at SMU Homecoming with my fellow Ponies. It was my 20-year undergraduate reunion, and I co-chaired the Class of 2004 reunion committee. We hosted a fabulous party for 220 classmates at the Ramble Room in Dallas, TX.

After getting to hold on to Peruna’s reigns at tailgate (read the fascinating and hilarious history of the Peruna horses here) SMU went on to beat Pitt in a blowout football game. While a heartbreaker loss at the ACC Championship hurts, we will be ready to play Penn State on 12/21 at 11am CST. Regardless of the outcome, it’s been an incredible year. Mustangs are back, everyone!
Very proud of my alma mater, and I will continue to advocate for more inclusion of Native American Students so that they can have the educational experiences and career opportunities I was fortunate to have. I will always be an advocate for the on-campus living experience that SMU requires.

Native American Rights Fund Board Meetings
I traveled to Boulder for the fall Native American Rights Fund board meetings. We purposefully scheduled our meeting for after the Presidential election, as NARF does considerable work protecting Native voting rights across the country.
NARF also manages and maintains the National Indian Law Library, which is a comprehensive resource for all things legal in Indian Country. Doing business with a Tribe and want to know their laws? NILL has you covered. Want to know the latest state or federal court decisions impacting Indian Country? Join NILL’s email list.
It was also wonderful to spend time with John Echohawk. I’ve seen him accept two Lifetime Achievement Awards in the last year. Truly, Indian Country wouldn’t be what it is today without a warrior and a leader like John.
As you reflect on 2024 and set new goals for 2025, I ask: What will you be recognized for when you receive your Lifetime Achievement Awards?
And as you consider your year-end charitable giving goals, please consider the work that NARF does and click that red DONATE button!

Here’s what I’m reading:
The Message Bible, specifically the book of Proverbs. Out loud with my 14 year old son!
And thinking of my Cherokee spiritual teacher, Crosslin Smith, who passed away this year. Reading this book of his.
Here’s what I’m listening to:
Keeping my personal and spiritual game first of mind is a journey I’m always on. Usually I hear women talking about these topics, but stumbled upon this and appreciated two men diving deep in this conversation: Manifestation Expert: STOP Doing These 3 Things That Block Your Manifestations! | David Ghiyam
Here’s what I’m watching:
Crypto prices!
Are you into crypto? I am. I think it’s an important way to diversify a portfolio. There’s a lot of opinions out there, and I’ll be sharing some of the voices that I think are most credible in the crypto space. If you’re staying up with all the political appointments, you know that crypto will be a big deal. Let me know what questions you have!
Finally, as we close out this year and prepare for the next, I am deep in the process of developing plans to help clients navigate the opportunities and challenges.
